How to Use Social Media to Improve Your Finances
We all know that social media is a great tool for connecting with others. However, even the savviest #hashtagger might not be using social networking to its fullest potential, especially when it comes to making and saving money. So, below we’ve included our top tips for using social media to improve your finances. Some of them may surprise you!
1. Follow Your Favorite Stores
Businesses all over the world are harnessing the power of social media to reach their customers in new and innovative ways. If you follow your favorite businesses on Facebook, Twitter, or another social media network, you will be among the first to receive alerts of sales and deals. You might even get to enter a contest and win some free stuff!
2. Search Specific Terms
When using a social media network like Twitter, you can search for specific terms or hashtags in the search bar. Use this to find jobs, contacts, and coupons. I have found several writing jobs this way, and they have turned out to be some of my best clients and friends. You can also search “guest post” to find blogs who might want to promote your products or business.
3. Utilize Accountability
When you are saving for a goal, you can use social media to stay accountable. Whether it’s paying off debt or going for a run instead of paying for your gym membership, there are tons of groups on social media that can encourage you in your pursuits.
4. Receive Praise
Banks like SmartyPig allow you to share your financial goals on Facebook and Twitter. Tell the world that you are saving for a car or a downpayment on a house, and keep them updated on your progress. You’ll be surprised at how many people cheer you on, including the companies themselves!
5. Get Upgrades
There are so many great hotels that are now on Twitter each and every day. Send them a message when you check into your hotel to let them know you’re there. You might find an extra mint on your pillow! Even better, you might get upgraded to that corner suite!
6. Get Answers
Have you ever e-mailed a company about a financial problem, only to have it ignored? Maybe you ordered a product that was defective, and you want to return it. Or, perhaps they charged your credit card twice. Did you try to call them only to get put on hold for 30 minutes with no response? Well, forget about waiting on the phone. All you need to do is send the company a public message on social media, and they will more than likely respond. Companies are very concerned about their brands and managing their reputations. Asking them a question for the world to see is a great way to get them to pay attention.
As you can see, social media is a great tool to use when you want to improve your finances. Whether it’s getting an awesome upgrade, finding a job, or getting a refund, you can find all those answers with just a click of a button!
